Historically, salons were cultural engines where art, philosophy, politics, and imagination cross-pollinated. In cultural hubs around the world, salons were where people learned to think culturally and produce meaning that shifted norms.

The Worldmaker’s Salon is designed for people who currently (or aspire to) influence how others think, feel, and make meaning. You may be an educator, organizer, artist, entrepreneur, policy thinker, healer, designer, strategist, writer, facilitator, or someone building practices within your community. Regardless of what you do, you know in your heart that culture is how we shape futures and that you were meant to be a shaper.

Joining The Worldmaker’s Salon requires you to complete an application to understand your idea and intent within the salon. Following the application, accepted members will begin their work on the start date. If you are not accepted into the salon, we do our best to provide feedback on what did not align with us at this time.

The Worldmaker’s Salon consists of three main components: salon sessions, research consultations, and independent study. Our salon sessions are 90-minute weekly workshops that deepen critical imagination within members and support them in applying this imagination to their work. In addition to these sessions, members receive research consultations that support the conceptualization of their project. Finally, the independent study provides members with a supplement curriculum to enhance their knowledge of their culture work. Throughout the Salon, support is scaffolded to ensure each member receives what they need to research and develop their ideas. Each component of the salon happens simultaneously and requires a significant commitment and balance to be executed with integrity. We encourage members to commit approximately 20 to 30 hours per week to reading, researching, and developing their ideas.

Within The Worldmaker’s Salon, culture projects can take many forms. Culture projects may include a book, visual art, short film, music project, curriculum, community practice, archive, business initiative, organizational practice, treatise, community event, or anything in between. We do not require your work to fit a specific medium. Our only requirements are that what you work on is something that expands contributes to shifting cultural imagination toward anti-oppressive ideals.

The Worldmaker's Salon is a journey of research-based cultural production. Importantly, we are not focused on traditional means of productivity. Instead, we want the salon participation to be more about building a devotion praxis than "finishing a project". For that reason, members don’t need to have a "final product" on the first or last day. Ideally, members will have a strong understanding about their project idea. However, that does not require them to be experts or have a "traditional" project. We believe the final product can range from proposals to minimum viable products to completed projects. This is why our application explicitly asks what you desire to accomplish in the salon. Our goal is to make this a meaningful experience for you and to give you the support you need to create something meaningful for the world.Throughout the salon, members will have numerous opportunities to finalize their project idea, create a supplemental curriculum, and outline a project plan. All we ask now is that you identify what you are curious about, unsettled by, and want to disrupt culturally.

The Worldmaker’s Salon provides numerous opportunities for personalized support. We start with initial consultations to understand you, your work, and your project. Following this consultation, we co-create a supplemental curriculum with you to fill knowledge gaps not addressed by the Salon Sessions. On our end, we provide you with research assistance for the supplemental curriculum that includes a scoping review (i.e., research synthesis) of your concept as well as seminal works (e.g., books, films, art) within your domain. Within the Salon, we create opportunities for feedback to aid in your project development.
